Revenge!

This spring Cottrell Brewing Company asked me to complete the Perry’s Revenge project, and create a striking four pack for their striking beer. I realized that for me one of the most compelling aspects of the new Perry’s Revenge Ale is the story behind it. Cottrell’s owner and brewmaster, Charlie Buffum, actually discovered the wreck of the Revenge while diving just miles from the brewery. While the story of the wreck is intriguing, I figured the story of the brewmaster-turned-underwater-explorer was just as incredible. I decided to design an entirely typographic box, with a little blurb devoted to Charlie’s story. And it works! For a beer that has a lot beneath the surface with its back story (and its 8.5 alcohol percentage), the label effectively grabs you–and leaves something to be discovered.

Thoughts on capitalism

Initially I wanted to do a data map of US external debt as a percentage of GDP over time. But it wasn’t that interesting. What was interesting was that the US isn’t even all that bad when it comes to debt. Most other countries with a “high standard of living” are far more debt ridden than we are. I don’t know what’s right. But even if I don’t know what side of this to stand on, I figured I’d try to communicate what was so confusing.

Labor of love

Ok, ok, not strictly visual art related, but who’s keeping track? This site is about making things, and making things well. Here is something that’s been at least partially consuming my thoughts for over half a year. Damn it’s a pleasure to see it out in the world.

Photo continued

I’ve been working more and more with photography so I decided to start sharing some of my work through Flickr.
